This weekend ranked tops in frustration. But I think that's as far as I'm going to go into it because there's no sense rehashing it all and feeling frustrated all over again. So here were the better parts of the weekend.
On Saturday morning we went "Garage sailing" to put together some camping gear and in a town with so much surf, the off-chance that someone's got a board for sale. We got a few camping kitchen items but nothing big. It was a great way to see other areas of the city though and we determined that the free city map we have will suffice because we didn't get lost and we found every garage sale we set out to find.
We went into a surf shop and ended up chatting with the owner/shaper for a good while. He is originally from California but has been here for over ten years. So it was interesting to hear his perspective on making a move that big, and different parts of New Zealand. Then we went to the beach and Dustin went out for surf (I stayed in the car and read because it was rainy) and when he was coming back up, the shop owner had come down to check out the waves so they had a chat but I didn't recognize him haha. So we're tempted to get a board made by him. But after a few months of more consistent surfing because by then Dustin might be better-suited to a different board.
We ended up going to see a band play Saturday night. It was two members of the group Tommy and the Fallen Horses. Being just two guys with guitars it was something of a City and Colour blended with Counting Crows. I enjoyed it and the in between song banter was entertaining. They did a Neil Young cover and a Fleetwood Mac cover. We left early because the All Blacks game had started but we soon realized that to watch it in a pub means being there before the game starts to get a seat! So we came home and I went to bed but Dustin watched the game. They were playing Australia and they won!
Yesterday morning, Dustin walked down to the farmer's market they have on Sundays and got a lovely spread for breakfast: free-range eggs, free-range pork sausages, sourdough rye bread and some kiwis! It was delicious!
So after 4 1/2 weeks here, I am still on the job hunt. I applied at Esquires today because they are hiring and then stopped into a bakery and it turns out they are looking for someone for part-time work. We got a mobile internet stick so we can get online at home now. Although, I think for any marathon sessions I'll still go to the library so we don't suck up the data too quickly. Dustin's still plugging away, building the retirement home and it seems like he'll have work there for a while.
It was really warm yesterday but we're supposed to have a cold snap coming in with lows back down to 5 or so. I picked up tickets for the rugby game this coming Saturday - it's supposed to be a good game!
