The view from the office

Out of necessity this week I had to take my "work from home" on the road. And what a great idea it was! Notice the photo above and add the sounds of a spring morning chock full of very excitable birds chirping away. And it's warm enough to wear shorts even at the early hour of 8am!

So I think I'm going to do more of this. So many cafes and pubs here have little "garden" seating areas like this and it's a treat and it does wonders for focus when I'm not trying to clean up dishes, write an ebook, hang out the washing, set up a new email marketing account, vacuum AND manage my clients' social media posts. I also can test how a pint of beer in a garden affects productivity haha.

This last week was a blur to describe it best. We managed to take out another quiz night win (we're batting 75%) and I even stepped onto the rugby pitch for the first time. Not technically because I cut across the rugby pitch all the time when I'm walking to the shops, but as a player. Dustin's touch team needed more girls so I gave it a whirl. Kind of tough to play a game without knowing the rules but the other players were quite helpful and I did almost score! Somehow my Monday nights get all booked up with volunteering and now shifts in emergency so I don't know if I'll get to join them again or not. Hopefully at least once or twice more!

This week I am off to Wellington and in an odd coincidence I am there at the height of Hobbit fanfare. The movie is premiering the second night I'm in town. All you fans will be thinking what a waste because I have never seen one of the movies or read any of the books. But I am thinking of taking a camera and seeing how many people dressed up like hobbits I can take photos with. I would wager around 20 on the sightseeing day I have. After that I'll be at the union conference and not wandering the streets.

We'll be topping off this week with Dustin's work Christmas party. It's 70s themed and although we are keen to get in costume most of the time I just can't get behind this theme somehow. We kind of have a couple borrowed shirts but that alone doesn't make a costume. So we might be the lameos who don't try. Oh well, rather look good than feel silly in a crap costume! haha.

I am just clearing out the photos on my phone and found a few to share...

Are we sure they are talking about seabed mining?

Back when we lost the shield... our mascot is a bull and theirs is a cow.

Great advice.

So folks until next time, I will be hobnobbing with hobbits and Dustin will be dancing around in his undies like Risky Business with the house to himself!

Taranaki Rugby!

Some photos from the game on Saturday afternoon. The wind caused a few wayward kicks and the torrential downpour mid-game made the ball slip all over the place but then the sun came out and Taranaki won! They were playing Canterbury who are now behind them by one place in the rankings. We had fun and managed to walk there and back without catching any of the rain. The steam-breathing drivable mascot I don't think the photo does justice to just how much it was raining! Line out Go the 'Naki! (They are the yellow and black team.)

Not for the squeamish

Well the long hours of work and planning and helping friends demo sheds and paper shuffling and biking and cooking and eating and cleaning have caught up with us and Dustin has relinquished his right to tell his story from last week. **Note, the pictures are gross so beware if you are a little faint seeing blood... So, last Friday I had worked the early shift and was back at home on a call with a virtual assisting client, so naturally my mobile was on silent, and as soon as I hung up, the home phone rang. (This is a phone that only people who have had a part in giving birth to one of us tend to use... that and wrong numbers, we get a surprising number of wrong numbers...) Anyways when Dustin's voice was on the other end the confusion began. "Hi, I'm at the hospital. Come here now." "What happened??" "I'm fine. Just come up here." (Wheels spinning in my head...) "Are you sure? I think it will take me too long to bike because I
