A feijoa in the eye

We finally threw a party here! If you know me you know I love entertaining so it's been a bummer to not have a space big enough to invite people over until recently. So we had some friends over on Saturday night and although the place doesn't have a great party flow, it was a great time. Late night but lots of laughs! So this weekend was mostly about cooking and baking party food (had a chance to dig deeper into a couple Annabel Langbein cook books Dustin's got me for Christmas and my birthday last year!!) and then Sunday we just watched movies on the couch and a couple friends dropped by for a visit. So a nice weekend. Such a far cry from doing paperwork and running around doing errands. I liked the change!

I didn't have any hospital shifts last week but now am into 3 weeks of work there. We have a public holiday this Thursday so that's sweet. Anzac day which is similar to Remembrance Day but it's about the soldiers who died in Gallipoli. There's always a service at dawn but I don't know that we'll be attending...

Luke is coming to visit and arrives this Saturday for a week long stay! So that will be cool. Dustin's hoping to take a day or two off work so they can do something like a hike. I think the last time we tried to figure it out, we hadn't seen Luke for over 2 years or so. We haven't even been on the same continent during most of that time! So will be cool to have a visit. Then we'll also get to visit him again in July because we booked ourselves some time in Mexico in the middle of our Vancouver visit. Yipee!

So we must admit, we don't follow the NHL here. It's not on TV and I guess to be honest we're not that huge of fans anyways so we haven't missed it much. However, Dustin's project manager at work is a big Red Wings fan and got to talking hockey with him which led to a wager on the recent Detroit vs Vancouver game. Dustin made the bet before looking at the Canucks' record against Detroit so we were a little worried they might lose! haha. Luckily they got it done in the shoot out which means a free box of beer coming our way! Thanks Canucks!

Now that we have booked flights we'll be starting to plan our visit back in the Lower Mainland but other than that we're just slowly shifting into autumn here with dark nights and heavy rain. Dustin got a new road bike so he's been out cruising around a bit. I got my dress ordered for Sara's wedding so that's exciting. The next couple months are leading us towards our 30th birthdays which sounds a lot older than it feels (sometimes) which means another excuse for a party! We'll have to take pictures this time!

Well hope it's a wonderful week for you readers!

Taranaki Rugby!

Some photos from the game on Saturday afternoon. The wind caused a few wayward kicks and the torrential downpour mid-game made the ball slip all over the place but then the sun came out and Taranaki won! They were playing Canterbury who are now behind them by one place in the rankings. We had fun and managed to walk there and back without catching any of the rain. The steam-breathing drivable mascot I don't think the photo does justice to just how much it was raining! Line out Go the 'Naki! (They are the yellow and black team.)

Not for the squeamish

Well the long hours of work and planning and helping friends demo sheds and paper shuffling and biking and cooking and eating and cleaning have caught up with us and Dustin has relinquished his right to tell his story from last week. **Note, the pictures are gross so beware if you are a little faint seeing blood... So, last Friday I had worked the early shift and was back at home on a call with a virtual assisting client, so naturally my mobile was on silent, and as soon as I hung up, the home phone rang. (This is a phone that only people who have had a part in giving birth to one of us tend to use... that and wrong numbers, we get a surprising number of wrong numbers...) Anyways when Dustin's voice was on the other end the confusion began. "Hi, I'm at the hospital. Come here now." "What happened??" "I'm fine. Just come up here." (Wheels spinning in my head...) "Are you sure? I think it will take me too long to bike because I
