3.5 Days

So after the major task of dropping off our boxes for shipping this morning, we will finally be into the stretch of prep that feels somewhat like a regular holiday. Just packing up the bags we'll take with us and getting any paperwork together. I think we're almost there. Oh, right, also need to sell the truck still. I think we're ready for that.

Yesterday afternoon we knocked a few more things off the list. (Including waiting at the currency exchange with 18 people ahead of me!) Also, finally scored some more adapters which have proven very difficult to find compared to the last time where I just happened across them at the dollar store in Fleetwood. Now, we could only find complete sets for the whole world or singles for countries that are not on the itinerary. Or singles for NZ but at ten times what we paid for them before so we kept hunting.

We might be able to feel excited today because the vast to-do list has shrunk. The tough part is fitting in all the visits which might not end up happening but we've had dinner plans every night this week so it's not for lack of trying! Close friends of ours threw us a party last weekend which was awesome so we caught up with some folks there too.

In all this, I realize I don't even have a book for the plane but I'm not too worried, there's plenty of movies and tv to choose from and I plan to actually get some sleep so that when we arrive at Auckland around 6am, I'm not too much of a zombie. If I am, we have an ace up our sleeve - a windowless room at the hostel so as soon as we can check in, at least it'll be dark enough to sleep during the day.

It's almost time to seriously comb through the vehicle listings in Auckland since that's the point of sticking around there. We are kind of thinking of a station wagon - so we can fit the surfboard inside!

Taranaki Rugby!

Some photos from the game on Saturday afternoon. The wind caused a few wayward kicks and the torrential downpour mid-game made the ball slip all over the place but then the sun came out and Taranaki won! They were playing Canterbury who are now behind them by one place in the rankings. We had fun and managed to walk there and back without catching any of the rain. The steam-breathing drivable mascot I don't think the photo does justice to just how much it was raining! Line out Go the 'Naki! (They are the yellow and black team.)

Not for the squeamish

Well the long hours of work and planning and helping friends demo sheds and paper shuffling and biking and cooking and eating and cleaning have caught up with us and Dustin has relinquished his right to tell his story from last week. **Note, the pictures are gross so beware if you are a little faint seeing blood... So, last Friday I had worked the early shift and was back at home on a call with a virtual assisting client, so naturally my mobile was on silent, and as soon as I hung up, the home phone rang. (This is a phone that only people who have had a part in giving birth to one of us tend to use... that and wrong numbers, we get a surprising number of wrong numbers...) Anyways when Dustin's voice was on the other end the confusion began. "Hi, I'm at the hospital. Come here now." "What happened??" "I'm fine. Just come up here." (Wheels spinning in my head...) "Are you sure? I think it will take me too long to bike because I
