Whenever there are fresh flowers in the house, they always end up plunked into one of our drinking glasses (if they are lucky and don't end up in a beer bottle).
This is because we have no vases as there's also not a ton of fresh flowers in the house - which I blame on Dustin's allergies.
I finally remembered to look for a glass vase when I was at the op shop last week (translation: thrift store). This one was really not too bad as it was but I had been itching to try some of the new crafty painting ideas I had been seeing online for ages.
After learning that a lot of the "dipped" in paint stuff is done with spraypaint - and because we only have silver, neon green and neon pink in spraypaint - I chose to paint the inside of the vase. Because I didn't thin the paint, it was nearly an entire day with the vase upside-down waiting for the paint to smoothly settle down the sides. My impatience got the best of me and I used my finger to drag it down faster but the finish may have suffered a bit as a result.
But even with those imperfections, doesn't this look much better? (Well, not taking into account the additional two days sucked out of the flowers' lives while waiting for the vase to dry.)
I am consistently trying to get more teal in this house so I am pleased to have one more item that allows me to add a flourish to the room!
looks really good! You should post a step by step guide on how u did this! What kind of paint did you use?
ReplyDeleteThanks Kara! Sorry I didn't take enough picks for a good step by step. But I washed the vase first, dried it and then poured some paint into it. I just used regular wall paint (water-based, low sheen but that shouldn't really make a difference). I rolled it around to try to coat it and then tipped it upside down on newspaper and checked on it every 1-2 hours. I didn't want it to stick to the paper so tried to wipe down the rim each time as well. Then once it had coated itself, I sat it right side up for a few days to dry. Hope that makes sense :)
