The plan as it stands...

So this is our plan:

Depart Vancouver 09AUG10 and stopover in LA before arriving in Auckland on 11AUG10.

We are hopping a bus and going straight to a coastal town called New Plymouth which is about a 5-6 hour drive southwest of Auckland. We haven't been there before but the city has lots of features that we're looking for. Hoping that we like this town enough, we'll spend a few months or more working and surfing and exploring the surrounding area which has some amazing hiking.

After some amount of time we'll hit the road around New Zealand to see cities we didn't see during our previous visit and probably visit some of those cities again. Last time we saw them in the wet and rainy winter but we're wanting to time it so that we're touring around through nicer weather which starts around November.

Somewhere in there we might even book a getaway to Samoa or Tonga for a week because they have package deals the way that Mexico does for Canadians.

Then on 30MAR11 we depart from Auckland to head to Perth in Western Australia. We have about 3 weeks to head up and down the WA coast - which we know could be squeezing in a lot given that there's a fair distance to travel to some of the places we have in mind. There are gorgeous beaches, great wineries and some amazing diving waiting for us! (Although the diving is mostly waiting for Dustin - however I might be swayed to try jumping in with the whale sharks...) We didn't made it over to WA when we were in Australia so we're quite excited to see it.

On 19APR11 we leave Perth and arrive in Melbourne. Though we lived here for about 3 months, we didn't play "tourist" a whole lot. So we will visit some friends and tour around the city until 26APR11 when we head back to Vancouver, again via LA.

So we don't really know between now and April where we'll end up but we know our starting point! And we already have some generous people hosting us for our first few days in New Plymouth thanks to couchsurfing.com!

Taranaki Rugby!

Some photos from the game on Saturday afternoon. The wind caused a few wayward kicks and the torrential downpour mid-game made the ball slip all over the place but then the sun came out and Taranaki won! They were playing Canterbury who are now behind them by one place in the rankings. We had fun and managed to walk there and back without catching any of the rain. The steam-breathing drivable mascot I don't think the photo does justice to just how much it was raining! Line out Go the 'Naki! (They are the yellow and black team.)

Not for the squeamish

Well the long hours of work and planning and helping friends demo sheds and paper shuffling and biking and cooking and eating and cleaning have caught up with us and Dustin has relinquished his right to tell his story from last week. **Note, the pictures are gross so beware if you are a little faint seeing blood... So, last Friday I had worked the early shift and was back at home on a call with a virtual assisting client, so naturally my mobile was on silent, and as soon as I hung up, the home phone rang. (This is a phone that only people who have had a part in giving birth to one of us tend to use... that and wrong numbers, we get a surprising number of wrong numbers...) Anyways when Dustin's voice was on the other end the confusion began. "Hi, I'm at the hospital. Come here now." "What happened??" "I'm fine. Just come up here." (Wheels spinning in my head...) "Are you sure? I think it will take me too long to bike because I
