Downtime in Dunedin

Well we have spent the last 4 days in Dunedin, we got a cabin to hide from the cold and rain of summer here. Today the high is about 14 degrees! Definitely thought summer would be a bit warmer but we've been told this is pretty normal.

We finished up our farm stay on Monday and it was only a few hours over to Dunedin. We've just been recharging mostly, I've had a bit of a cold lately so trying to get rid of it. Dustin got out to surf once but then the wind kicked up for a few days and the conditions were huge and messy.

We're starting another wwoofing stop today just outside Dunedin up near the port. We'll be here a few nights before heading over to the west coast of the south island. We have about 3 weeks left on this island so we've been trying to sort out our plans for the time and trying to work out another wwoofing stop or two. There's a great wine region on the north part of the island so I thought a winery/vineyard would be a great experience! Apparently wwoofing is very very popular though so we've been finding quite a few places will be booked weeks ahead and we haven't been on top of booking stays lately so not sure where we'll end up. We have one set for a lovely area called Golden Bay and the beaches are supposed to be quite nice with lots of hikes in the area so that will be cool.

Our last stay was very interesting with lots of exposure to new things - skinning lambs, seeing heading dogs at work, and living with children for a start. Luckily we had our own little hut away from the house to escape to but we still ate all our meals up at the house. We've been wondering how awful we were to live with when we were 12 years old so hopefully we didn't treat our parents too badly. haha.

Well library internet time is limited here and I don't want to get called off mid-sentence so just wanted to post an update since it's been a while. We are still cruising along and are really looking forward to real summer weather and we hope we haven't misjudged the timing and missed it on the north island! We've actually been wearing jackets and long-sleeved shirts. The wind that comes up off the ocean was so mad that one night it was actually shaking the portable building we were staying in at the farm. Apparently Wanaka has been around 27 degrees lately though and that's our next destination come Monday so hope it keeps up!

Taranaki Rugby!

Some photos from the game on Saturday afternoon. The wind caused a few wayward kicks and the torrential downpour mid-game made the ball slip all over the place but then the sun came out and Taranaki won! They were playing Canterbury who are now behind them by one place in the rankings. We had fun and managed to walk there and back without catching any of the rain. The steam-breathing drivable mascot I don't think the photo does justice to just how much it was raining! Line out Go the 'Naki! (They are the yellow and black team.)

Not for the squeamish

Well the long hours of work and planning and helping friends demo sheds and paper shuffling and biking and cooking and eating and cleaning have caught up with us and Dustin has relinquished his right to tell his story from last week. **Note, the pictures are gross so beware if you are a little faint seeing blood... So, last Friday I had worked the early shift and was back at home on a call with a virtual assisting client, so naturally my mobile was on silent, and as soon as I hung up, the home phone rang. (This is a phone that only people who have had a part in giving birth to one of us tend to use... that and wrong numbers, we get a surprising number of wrong numbers...) Anyways when Dustin's voice was on the other end the confusion began. "Hi, I'm at the hospital. Come here now." "What happened??" "I'm fine. Just come up here." (Wheels spinning in my head...) "Are you sure? I think it will take me too long to bike because I
