A Day of Goodbyes

Friday was a day of goodbyes for us. Both us of finished up work and then we moved out of our apartment. For Dustin, his send off was pizza and beers and for me, everyone at work contributed to a potluck lunch with lots of goodies - complete with a postcard-shaped cake! Unlike Dustin, I definitely shed a couple tears upon leaving. Just kind of mixed emotions - I'm absolutely excited that we've made this decision and that we're going and then of course sometimes moving on has its tough spots.

After a quick sushi dinner in the Heights we got to the task of packing up the final bits and cleaning the apartment. The man that helps out our building manager was kind enough to do the carpet cleaning for us! It was very lucky we took an extra trip on Thursday night because the vehicle was packed to the gills! Even with all the things we've gotten rid of, it's amazing the amount of "stuff" people amass. I really have liked the fact that traveling like this has kept our "stuff" to a minimum. And I'm happy to say that this time we are storing a lot less of it than last time. We are very lucky to have Dustin's mom be so generous as to let us keep our stuff in her garage and spare bedroom. We have to put some time to reorganizing it a bit since the last couple drop offs were weeknights where we just wanted to get back home to get more sleep so we just put stuff where it fit at the time.

Now our week of many social visits and checking off the to-do list begins! It feels like we have enough time to get sorted but also that there's so much to fit in. I think by mid-week we'll have had a chance to take care of a lot of things so we can be closer to stress free leading up to departure. Funny things like dentist appointments get in the way - the earliest Dustin could get in turned out to be the day we leave. But our flight isn't until 6:30pm so that will be just fine.

We are staying at Dustin's mom's house in Surrey until we go. We moved our bed here last weekend so all week we've been sleeping on our thermarests and I always forget how comfortable our bed is until I don't sleep in it for a while. We sold our couch last weekend as well so we've been living a spartan life this week. Which is funny because it was no drama and it reminds us of what really is and isn't necessary sometimes.

Now we focus on friends and family and feeling prepared!

Getting ready to go to New Zealand!

Taranaki Rugby!

Some photos from the game on Saturday afternoon. The wind caused a few wayward kicks and the torrential downpour mid-game made the ball slip all over the place but then the sun came out and Taranaki won! They were playing Canterbury who are now behind them by one place in the rankings. We had fun and managed to walk there and back without catching any of the rain. The steam-breathing drivable mascot I don't think the photo does justice to just how much it was raining! Line out Go the 'Naki! (They are the yellow and black team.)

Not for the squeamish

Well the long hours of work and planning and helping friends demo sheds and paper shuffling and biking and cooking and eating and cleaning have caught up with us and Dustin has relinquished his right to tell his story from last week. **Note, the pictures are gross so beware if you are a little faint seeing blood... So, last Friday I had worked the early shift and was back at home on a call with a virtual assisting client, so naturally my mobile was on silent, and as soon as I hung up, the home phone rang. (This is a phone that only people who have had a part in giving birth to one of us tend to use... that and wrong numbers, we get a surprising number of wrong numbers...) Anyways when Dustin's voice was on the other end the confusion began. "Hi, I'm at the hospital. Come here now." "What happened??" "I'm fine. Just come up here." (Wheels spinning in my head...) "Are you sure? I think it will take me too long to bike because I
