Just Beachy

We technically had our first beach day of this summer on Sunday. A beach day is when we go to the beach for purposes other than surfing/running. We bring snacks and drinks and beach mats and if we're lucky we catch up with friends too. We started them when we lived in Melbourne and did a couple beach days with Theresa. They are a grand thing.

Our lack of beach days this summer is partly due to a chilly start to the season and partly due to a commitment to renovation. But on Sunday Dustin convinced us to move past the war with the venetian blinds and take some time out to enjoy the sunshine. It was a great idea.

It also gave me a chance to fulfill a request we've had for some video footage of the beaches here. So, welcome to Fitzroy Beach. It's about 5.7 km from our house and takes about ten minutes to drive to. It was low tide when we were there. Hopefully I remember to bring the camera the next time the waves are pumping so you can see it in its full glory. It's a popular beach and the suburb that meets it is one that we had our eyes on when we were house hunting. But not many people move from there or if they do, chances are the asking price is quite high.

Check out the short video clip here: http://youtu.be/lx7ELXSjlNA

And we ran into some mermaids while we were there: http://youtu.be/vvE-BufATbs

Lucie wanted to wear Dustin's surf hat and practice surfing though.

I'm thinking how funny it is that we have now a couple video clips that include children that are not ours. Just wait until we get a dog, then you'll be overloaded with dog photos and videos. In the meantime, we could try to teach the chickens some tricks maybe?

Taranaki Rugby!

Some photos from the game on Saturday afternoon. The wind caused a few wayward kicks and the torrential downpour mid-game made the ball slip all over the place but then the sun came out and Taranaki won! They were playing Canterbury who are now behind them by one place in the rankings. We had fun and managed to walk there and back without catching any of the rain. The steam-breathing drivable mascot I don't think the photo does justice to just how much it was raining! Line out Go the 'Naki! (They are the yellow and black team.)

Not for the squeamish

Well the long hours of work and planning and helping friends demo sheds and paper shuffling and biking and cooking and eating and cleaning have caught up with us and Dustin has relinquished his right to tell his story from last week. **Note, the pictures are gross so beware if you are a little faint seeing blood... So, last Friday I had worked the early shift and was back at home on a call with a virtual assisting client, so naturally my mobile was on silent, and as soon as I hung up, the home phone rang. (This is a phone that only people who have had a part in giving birth to one of us tend to use... that and wrong numbers, we get a surprising number of wrong numbers...) Anyways when Dustin's voice was on the other end the confusion began. "Hi, I'm at the hospital. Come here now." "What happened??" "I'm fine. Just come up here." (Wheels spinning in my head...) "Are you sure? I think it will take me too long to bike because I
